Frequently asked questions about the configurator

What exactly does the GTM Container Configurator do?

You pick a proven tracking template, enter your GA4 Measurement ID and Google Ads Conversion ID — and get a ready-made container file to import into Google Tag Manager. Tags, triggers and variables are already wired up; you don’t have to click anything together manually.

Is this really free? Where’s the catch?

Completely free, no signup, no catch. The templates come from my real client projects. If you ever need help with the finishing touches, you know where to find me — that’s the whole business model.

Are my IDs sent to a server?

No. The entire personalization runs in your browser. Your Measurement ID and Conversion ID never leave your computer at any point.

Can I import the container into an existing GTM container?

Yes. When importing into GTM, choose the “Merge” option instead of “Overwrite” — that way your existing tags are kept and the new ones are added. Then test everything in preview mode before you publish.

Are the templates GDPR-compliant?

The tags respect Google Consent Mode. For the setup to be GDPR-compliant overall, you also need a cookie banner with Consent Mode v2 — for that there’s the Finsweet template here. When in doubt: this is no substitute for legal advice.
